BILL GRADY WILL HEAD FT. DODGE: Bill Grady, from WCWC/WYVR, Ripon-Fond Du Lac, WI has accepted the position as Manager of KVFD-AM/KUEL-FM, Ft. Dodge. Begins December 9. Bill has been "Director of Broadcast Operations" at the Fond Du Lac-Ripon stations, and at one time served as Manager of KRIT/Clarion-Ft. Dodge. He's a native of Ft. Dodge and a graduate of Iowa Central Community College in Ft. Dodge. In the November 11, 1991 issue of "Broadcasting" magazine writer Reed Bunzel provided an overview of radio sales projections for 1991. Quoting SBC's Dean Sorenson, Bunzel said "In the smaller markets of the Upper Midwest radio business is tough - - but no tougher than normal, according to Sorenson Broadcasting President Dean Sorenson. We are running dead, just nickels ahead of last year he said. Truth is, we're not feeling the recession that hard because we don't have big industry up here. Our hit was back in the early-mid 80's with the farm crisis and we got through that okay. Next year should be slightly better than 1991, largely because of the state and national elections, Sorenson said. "We're budgeting an increase of 4-6% for next year, mostly because of the U.S. Senate races. Over $1500 a year! The post office sponsors the KHUB weather line one day a week in February, June and July. The post office co-sponsors a weekly sports show six months of the year, places a schedule in November about Holiday mailing, and in December does Letters to Santa. The copy approach has been mainly that of a hometown your friends and neighbors are the ones who deliver your mail and the theme of competing against other non-local delivery services. one ECONOMIC NEWS: In Stutsman County and Jamestown, September 91 building permits were up 29% over September, 1990. Second quarter (April, May, June) retail sales in Stutsman. County were up 9.6% over the same quarter, 1990.
