Established in 1987, the NAB Crystal Radio Award recognizes radio stations’ efforts to improve the quality of life in their surrounding communities. Selected from a pool of 44 finalists, the following 10 stations were given the award today: KDWB‑FM, Minneapolis, MN KIRO‑AM, Seattle, WA KUZZ‑AM/FM, Bakersfield, CA KVFD‑AM, Fort Dodge, IA KWSN‑AM, Sioux Falls, SD WIBC‑AM, Indianapolis, IN WKVI‑AM/FM, Knox, IN WLEN‑FM, Adrian, MI WUSL‑FM, Philadelphia, PA WUSY‑FM, Chattanooga, TN “The strength of broadcasting is service to communities and these local stations are the best of the best and deserve the industry’s congratulations,” stated NAB President & CEO Edward O. Fritts. The awards were presented today during the Radio Luncheon at NAB’s annual spring convention. The luncheon also featured a keynote speech by C.W. Metcalf, humorist and best‑selling author, and the induction of Rush Limbaugh into the NAB Broadcasting Hall of Fame. NAB98 runs through April 9 in Las Vegas at the Las Vegas Convention Center and the Sands Expo Convention Center.
